Part One:            An Overview of the 1976 Season

An ugly season…. Races decided by the courts, mob rule at Brands Hatch, Monza and tainted retribution, Niki’s horrific crash, monsoon in Japan…… but on the bright side there was Long Beach and Ligier came to being, the Tyrrell P34, Penske with a win, Mario and Lotus…..…….

The 1976 season consisted of 16 races.  James Hunt won 6 races for McLaren and the WDC by one point.  Niki Lauda won 5 races and lost the WDC by one point….he missed 3 races due to his crash at the ‘Ring.  Other winners were….. Mario Andretti, Clay Regazzoni, Ronnie Peterson, Jody Scheckter in the 6-wheeler, and John Watson with Penske.  Ferrari won the Constructors Championship.

Part Two:             Mosport Park

Canada was back in 1976…….  My plans for Mosport Park and a week later Watkins Glen, was to enjoy both races with 2 buddy’s and my brother –in-law (now EX-brother in law) in a huge Winnebago that my brother-in-law was to rent for us for both weekends.  With that in mind and having to budget my $$$ for rent, gas, liquid refreshments and slide film…I decided to bring only 3 rolls of slides for Mosport and shoot the other 7 rolls at Watkins Glen.  The nice think about Mosport Park is that security is rather lax and getting into the pits and paddock on Friday & Saturday was a breeze…especially with my long hair and fu Manchu I fitted in with the typical F1 snapper…..  The result is I shot up all my slides by Saturday afternoon…mostly in the pits…but no problem as I will get lots of car shots at the Glen the following week……. Then I found out after we got back from Mosport that my brother-in-law had forgotten to tell the rest of us that he decided he wasn’t going to the Glen and therefore didn’t bother to rent the ‘Bago for that weekend but had somehow forgotten to give the rest of us back our $$$$ for that rental.  No Winnebago….. No Watkins Glen…… result is not very many good pics………’sigh.
